Very early in the PhD process, it was an opportunity to present early thoughts on a dissertation topic.
An introduction to the academic, professional, research, and personal disciplines necessary for the successful completion of a doctoral degree. Students are equipped to assess the theological foundations and principles of doctoral study; develop critical thinking techniques and writing abilities; identify and deploy doctoral-level ministry and research skills; and utilize library resources for study and research. Subsequent to the seminar students develop a strategic plan to maximize the benefits of doctoral studies.
- Analyze and discuss the process of critical thinking with special reference to biblical exegesis, theological synthesis, and ministry application.
- Conduct a biblically-informed process of self-evaluation in the areas of personal and professional development, as these aspects may influence their readiness for Christian leadership and advanced graduate study.
- Develop a working knowledge of and ability to implement the requirements of the Midwestern Style Manual.
- Develop a strategic plan for the completion of their doctoral studies.
- Initiate the process of advanced research, including topic-selection and ‘State-of-Question” analysis, using available library and database resources.
